Bio: I was raised in Kingston Ontario and then moved to Vancouver BC for 25 years. You would not believe the lengths I went to to get back to Kingston, and that is because I love my hometown. I also love travelling around and taking photos, so I want to share Kingston and the area with those who miss it, those who have visited and loved it, and those who are here. Enjoy!

  1. Very interesting site you have, lovely photos. I live in Edenwood Estates and am always very curious about the old red brick house that has been boarded up for a while, near where the sheep are on Battersea road, You have a photo of the house on your site, do you know the history or who owns this gem?

    • I don’t know the story to that house. Fran BRZ, who has a Kingston history blog, lives up there too and made a comment about the house after that post, but she doesn’t know who owns it either. Go and ask them and get back to us. 🙂

  3. Your pics have inspired us so much that we’re moving back from Van in a couple months. It has really helped a lot to see these shots .You’ve have a great eye for the beauty in the small and normal.Like roadside flowers and courthouse steps etc, etc. These kinds of shots did the trick for us to make the move back.Keep up the great work.

  4. That’s great Duffy, I hope! I LOVE being back here but my move was VERY difficult. I actually panicked and moved back to BC, but was miserable and came back again. Leaving Kingston in 2012 was the stupidest move of my life! I hope you’re not wanting work when you get here, or that you have something good lined up before you come. Work was very difficult to get for me here and in my field, which is health care with seniors, it pays very poorly for the most part. But good luck and I hope things work out well for you! Let me know. I have to say, that as hard as it has been for me, I will be driving down a street and I will tear up because I’m just soooooo happy to be here, especially now that I am actually living in town.

  6. Dear Klahey,

I work for a company called Fixtpoint Arts and Media, we are currently creating a mini-series, “Main Street Ontario,” which will air on TVO.

We would love to use one of your photos in our episode about Guelph.

If you could send me an email at brina@fixtpoint.com so we could discuss further that would be fantastic!

    Thanks so much,

  7. Hello Ms. Lahey,
Some time ago I was checking the internet for places to take pictures in Kingston. During that search, your blog came up and I bookmarked the page. Recently I called up your kingstoncam and was delighted to see several new pictures from your summer adventures in 2020. I would like to speak with you with regard to your photography, biking, travels and specs about your camera. If you would be so kind to reply and let me know if this is a possibility. Thank you so much.

      • Your pictures inspire me and I would be interested in knowing what inspires you to take the shots you do. You portray them beautifully on this site and your dialogue is just right. I have lived in Kingston two years now and seem to take less photos than when I lived in Trenton. It is a solitary hobby, but I think it would be nice to talk to someone who appears to like to take the same kind of shots that I do – like cats on the sidewalk, old radiators, street scenes and country scenes when bike riding. I too ride a bike but not in the city, however I am a keen walker. Basically to talk to someone who seems to have similar interests in photography and perhaps pick up some pointers as to what inspires you and when you find the time. If this is not clear, let me know and I will try to be more precise. In fact, when COVID is over or not such a threat I would be really interested in shadowing you on an excursion – realizing that it might be an imposition on you and I would not want to do that.

  8. Hi Karen, I will try. Your photos appeal to me because so many of them are shots that I would also take. I am interested in learning what inspires you to take certain shots like the old white radiator and a few other backyard scenes in downtown Kingston. Having moved to Kingston two years ago, I have spent some time trying to find spots to take pictures, either in the city or out of town and I do not feel that I have been as successful as I would like. It appears that you take your bicycle along on some of your out of town excursions and that is interesting as I also ride a bicycle and have gone on some trails but am always with people who like to ride for speed and exercise. I like to stop and smell the roses (photo stops) along the way and am always behind. I realize that photography is a solitary hobby, however, I am wondering if once this COVID thing is better you would be agreeable to let me shadow you on one of your outings. I would also like to find out more about how you got your blog set up – not that I want to do that. Your pictures show so well, along with you wonderful dialogue and I am interested in how you got started with that.
    Thanks

  9. Karen: (I presume you are Karen!) I am familiar with your posts to Tony @ Lakelandcam. I have the odd contribution there as well as ‘Mike in Ottawa’. I always tell him not to bother posting my emails but he does anyway. I write to him to speak to him. Not the general public. But there you are. I had no idea you had this webpage. It is really good. Today was the first time I ever clicked ‘More links for you’ on his page. Can’t even say why I did it today and not in the past nearly 20 years. We spend our time in Ottawa in the winter but in April, July, August and September we reside here in beautiful, remote Sand Beach, NS. My wife made a FB page about our house here as it is rather special being both a passive house and off-grid. https://www.facebook.com/ChebougeRoad if you are interested. My interest in Lakelandcam is because we visit The Lakes every year (except for Covid years). My father’s family came from Cumbria and Lancashire. Anyway, thought I would say hi. One Canuck to another. Another Lakelandcam fan. No need to publish this email!

    • Hi Mike. Yes, I notice your comments on Lakeland Cam. 🙂 I think this posts automatically but don’t worry, I only have a small number of followers. I have a cousin up your way that I visit now and again and I post my pictures from there as well. Last time, in the fall, I did some bike rides along the River from Andrew Haydon Park to downtown, over a couple of days. I like Ottawa very much. I liked NS very much when I was there too. I swore I would get back EVERY year. That was over 40 years ago now and I have never been back. How interesting to have an environmentally friendly house! I love England but have never been to the Lakes. I got hooked on Whitby and kept going there. One day I’ll win a lottery and be able to go to all these places. Thank you for popping by Mike. Wonderful to meet you.

  10. Hi K,

We met a few years ago, and I have been visiting your site on the down low ever since. Don’t know if you remember me. I was cleaning a messy, forgotten thicket in Kingscourt area and you left me a box of flowers. So lovely! Anyway, to this day I love to look at your photos. You also mentioned in one of your posts that you paint. After looking up your wonderful art, I wondered if you give one-on-one painting lessons? My husband and I might be interested in taking a few.

Let me know, and take care!

    • Hi again. I’ve written to you through your blog–Michele Made Me. Not sure if it will work. You have a FB page but it doesn’t look like you use it much. I could write you via Messenger?
