Up until Sunday night, the weather forecast said that it would be a sunny but cold day in Ottawa, so I was looking forward to some fantastic sights in the Gatineau Hills. Right up until five in the morning, the sky was cloud free and the stars were crystal clear. But when I got up, it was cloudy and gloomy and the forecast was for blustery, cold and grey. We headed over anyway. Then it was time for the next disappointment. The Gatineau Parkway had been closed for the season, just the day before! We headed up the main highway to Wakefield, and the hills were stunning, even in the grey light, but, of course, you can’t stop and take pictures on the highway. Sigh.
We did come off the highway as per Google instructions, but turned the wrong way, and ended up on a little dirt road that went into the park north of Chelsea. Here are some photos from that stop.
Quick, there’s some sunshine!!
Oh, it’s gone. That was fast.
Then we arrived in Wakefield.
We had lunch at the famous Black Sheep Inn. It was quite cold and raw out, but the lunch was good.
Another ray of sunshine, with the Wakefield covered bridge upriver.
Tomorrow, more Wakefield, and then Merrickville, on the way back to K-town.
