Back in 1995, the Sisters of Providence started a silent vigil every Friday in front of the City Hall protesting cuts being made by the Harris government. Other people could and did join them. They were there in all kinds of weather. Now the sisters are growing older and have decided to call it a day after 20 years. There was a celebration for them this evening. I missed the first bit, so I didn’t get a picture of the actual Sisters, but a few of them might be in some of the pictures.
A woman from CKWS films the Shout Sister choir, led by Georgette Fry, a long-time and popular Kingston singer.
Chris Wyman has been Kingston’s Town Crier for many years.
These women chanted during the 15 minute silence.
Here’s that Laurentia cruise boat again.
After the celebration, that moved inside City Hall, I wandered around taking photos in the gorgeous evening light. The weather was absolutely perfect and I ended up sitting in Market Square just watching people for a while. What a great town!
